IIT BOMBAY INTERVIEW QUESTIONS

Disclaimer: i personally had avoided IIT Bombay due to a hell of diahorrea. However my friends had narrated their experiences.

Rated the best civil engineering college in India by world’s most trusted ranking system, IIT Bombay was the hot favourite for all top rankers. The system of admission is 70% gate and 30 % written test /and interview. However my personal opinion is as high as 10% is given to first preference and interview performance is also very much valued. Need proof.OBC guy with rank about 350 had structures in IIT Bombay where about 40 people where above him in same category. However he had prepared like hell. It all boils down to GATE score suited first preference and heavy interview.

The tests were all basics. Some questions were repetition of IIT Kanpur. If you have not read it I suggest reading it first. It’s in your right under LABELS. Some interview questions I gathered different. CHOOSE your first option correctly as professors here are fanatical about their subjects and will under no circumstance allow a second option guy get in so easily.Also there has been selection for guys with rank 11000 for transportation in general category.but don't be disillusioned that you will surely get.read more and see how he got.Also some sites say that multiple choice questions are asked.there were cases when descriptive was asked and it is better to get basics right.

STRUCTURES

QUESTIONS LIKE ductile detailing, slenderness ratio (L/R, remember its radius of gyration in steel), drawing single portal, finding no. of freedoms, failure position in simple beam (it middle), different tests, graphs of shear in beam, L beam, concrete basic stress strain graphs, bmd of different LOAD conditions, how to do steel calculation, STEEL DESIGN force calculation, how to do column design, special publication uses etc.

GEOTECH

Basic level questions of geotech and some application level which I don’t bother discussing as there is no point.

TRANSPORTATION

basic definition like what is sight distance, OSD etc. if you don’t answer that then interview will go into application level questions.SSD definition is defined by like ‘The distance between the eye level of driver at 1.2 m......yeah you bet, I will give answer as well in your dreams .graphs questions of traffic like graph between (q and velocity), difference between basic capacity and practical capacity etc. Also i had earlier mentioned about 1100 ranker getting and not 200 ranker.For high rankers its imperative to choose transportation as first choice,the 200 ranker had it in second choice.also 1100 got transportation because he had project in transportation and it was asked to him like anything.He answered it all and if you have similar condition you may also try by not too worrying about what other say.there is a specific reason why the last rank cut off of iit where interviews are held is not displayed.

WATER RESOURCE

Same as IIT k, only here learn unit hydrograph definition by heart like your life depends on it.

ENVIRONMENTAL

Questions like the definition of BOD etc, the mechanism of all process, stocks law, air pollutants etc. More questions in IIT Delhi, you can look into and click under LABELS.

OCEAN ENGINEERING
